call the meme.

There’s a meme going around the blogsphere at the moment. A lot of my friends have had it and are passing it on. It is rather contagious.

I’m not a fan of memes, I’m never quite sure where/how it fits with my blog. I also feel absolutely wretched about not participating when someone has tagged me in it. It feels a bit, spoilsporty.

I’ve been tagged by (in order of tagging) Lor, Ju, and Erin. I suggest you go read their responses, and the questions they’ve set me. I won’t bore you with answering all 33 of their questions, but I will pick (what I think) are the 11 most interesting questions and answer those. I won’t be tagging anyone (because pretty much everyone has been tagged), but please do answer any of the questions that they’ve set, if you feel like it.

1.) Were you ever teased in school and for what? [Lor]

Yes. We moved around a lot, so it wasn’t easy being ‘the new girl’ who didn’t look or act anything like the manic pixie dream girl that is Zooey Deschanel. I got teased for my accent, for ‘sounding funny’, and for being short. There was that one incident where someone was a little bit cruel about my love for English Literature.

2.) What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon? [Lor]

It depends on where I am and what’s going on. There’s probably tennis on, so I’ll schedule around that. Otherwise, it’s lying around in bed; trying to catch up on my reading.

3.) We’re all out at karaoke together. Which song do you choose to sing? [Lor]

How much have I had to drink? I’d either do ‘Son of a Preacher Man’ [Dusty Springfield], or Wannabe [Spice Girls]. Someone’s bound to sing along.

4.)  When you’re upset, what do you usually do? [Ju]

If I’m allowed to have a go at whoever has upset me, I’ll do that. That isn’t always possible and I tend to be a bit short with everyone I come into contact with, so I try to avoid people as much as possible. I try and go for a run, it usually makes me feel better.

5.)  If you could pack up and leave right now, where would you go? [Ju]

Indian Wells, to watch the tennis.

6.) What is your hiding/ me place? [Ju]

Whatever room I’m currently occupying. If that isn’t possible, then wherever it is that I can run.

7.) Burma or Myanmar? Be specific. [Erin]

Burma. I don’t believe in legitimising the military junta. Apart from being a non-representative, non-democratic government; their awful human rights record further delegitimises the current state for me. I have grave issues with ASEAN and the Indian government officially recognising it as Myanmar and continuing close diplomatic relations with the junta. India’s silence over the Burmese protests in 2007 was a huge disappointment for me, especially considering India continued arms trade with the nation until 2008.

Use your MP3 player on shuffle to answer the following two questions [Erin]:

8.) “What would best describe your personality?”

9.) “What is the worst thing that could happen?”

10.) You can only read one book for the rest of your life. Which do you choose? [Lor]

11.)  Put a photo of the third book from the right on your bookshelf – technically not a question, still, humor me! [Ju]
